SCHOOL COUNCIL

The Board of Trustees of Edmonton Catholic Schools continues to view Catholic education as a shared responsibility.  The trustees welcome and support the establishment of a School Council to advise the principal and the School Board respecting any matter relating to the school in accordance with the School Act and the provincial regulations.  In addition to these regulations, the School Councils of Edmonton Catholic Schools add to the faith dimension by assuming a support role creating a vital religious life in the school.

Each Edmonton Catholic School provides for the establishment of a School Council with the stipulation that the majority of the members be parents of students attending the school.  The St. Joseph School Council meets at the school on a monthly basis.  The role of the council is varied and includes the following as examples:

  • Provide advance to the school administrator on school related matters, (philosophy, discipline, etc.)
  • Support the school in varied ways.
  • Encourage parents and community commitment.
  • Become more aware of the school’s programs.

Parents are invited to actively take part in their school and to feel very comfortable in calling the school

to seek information and/or voice concerns.
